Transitioning to Common Core Algebra I: This one day workshop will help give math teachers the tools needed to suc
cessfully transition to the new Common Core Algebra I standards. It will review the history of recent curricular changes to mathematics in New York State as well as the Common Core Standards that are applicable to Algebra I. Teachers will learn about the newest information from EngageNY as well as from the PARCC consortium. Emphasis will be placed on how to interpret and implement the fluency recommendations and major content emphases, as outlined by the PARCC Model Content Frameworks for Algebra I. Time will be given to participants to discuss their current programs and develop transition plans that best fit their current curriculums.
This Algebra 1 workshop will inform and update participants with the latest information from New York State concerning the New York State Common Core Regents, scheduled to be given in June, 2014, with particular emphasis on the suggested modules for the Algebra 1 curriculum that her been released by the State Education Department.
Time will also be devoted to the latest material that are being released by PARCC, with particular emphasis on the most recent PARCC Model Content Frameworks, Evidence Statement Tables, and Performance Level Indicators.
Finally, a portion of the workshop will be spent preparing curriculum and assessment questions that allign with the common core content standards and practices.
