McEvoy Culinary students create recipes for local eatery: What can a high school senior do to leave their mark on their school and community? For some OCM BOCES Culinary Arts students, the concept of leaving a mark meant creating a signature recipe for a local eatery. Dean Catlin, owner of Skyline Raceway in Blodgett Mills, recently made a “Pit stop” to the OCM BOCES McEvoy campus for the purpose of enlisting culinary arts students’ help in creating a signature culinary creation for the track’s restaurant.   Mr. Catlin, who often volunteers with students, recently approached OCM BOCES culinary arts instructor, Chef Lori Rossi, with his idea. “I want something no one else has,” Mr. Caitlin said. “I want something special people can look forward to getting at the track.” Rossi was ... 71 inducted to National Technical Honor Society: OCM BOCES recently inducted 71 Syracuse-area students inducted into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). Students that qualify for induction into the technical honor society represent the “best of the best” in CTE programs.   To be inducted into the technical honor society students must have an 85 average or higher, 12 or fewer absences from their program for the year and receive a teacher endorsement. "Chit Chat Train" project promotes positive interaction: It was full-steam ahead for OCM BOCES students at our Crown Road campus, where teachers and staff in our Stellatta and K-8 special education programs recently piloted a social communication project, called the "Chit Chat Train," to encourage students to display positive and appropriate interactions with their peers. For four weeks, students earned paper train cars for using appropriate nonverbal gestures and social greetings, as well as for asking/answering each other's questions and making appropriate comments during peer interactions. Culinary students at McEvoy present a grand feast: Fantastico Dinner: Students in the McEvoy Campus Culinary Arts program recently hosted a dinner for the Cortland and Madison Boards of Education. Members were greeted by the culinary students of Chef Lori Rossi’s class with strawberry lemonade, spinach-artichoke crostini, and crispy panko-parmesan tortellini. A classic variety of Italian music played in the background while members were served a salad of fresh mozzarella, arugula and cherry tomato. Connect:NY, is WCNY’s statewide TV news and public affairs series, which continues to convene conversations that matter to all citizens of New York State.  Erin McCormack, Executive Producer of WCNY, took the time to walk students through all phases of the production. Cathy always loved everything about her small town life and appreciates the fact that she grew up living at a slower pace than most people.   As a child, Cathy had opportunities right within her neighborhood to ride bikes and play ball and hang out with her friends.
